BERMAGUI GAME FISHING CAPITAL OF THE FAR SOUTH COAST NEW SOUTH WALES (NSW) AUSTRALIA
With a reputation as the game fishing capital of
the New South Wales Far South Coast Bermagui is an angler's delight. In the spring warm
currents bring Marlin and Yellowfin Tuna close to the coast with charter boats
available to take deep sea and game fishing enthusiasts out to sea. One of the
more notable figures to practice the sport was American author of Westerns,
Zane Grey who was a regular visitor and wrote about his
experiences in an American angler in Australia (1937). Today the attractive township has more
than just great fishing to offer visitors and over the years has come to be
regarded as one of the South Coast's best holiday destinations.
There is a safe
harbour
with all weather capability and netted pool. The
blue pool is a large saltwater pool which lies to the east of the
headland and can be accessed from the southern end of scenic drive. The crystal clear sapphire waters that surround
Bermagui provide some of the best diving experiences anywhere and
swimmers will enjoy themselves on the white sandy beach at
Horseshoe Bay.

When it's time to play the
Bermagui Country Club with it's 18 hole golf course,
2 all weather, 4 clay tennis courts and first class bowling greens is the
perfect place to play and relax after the game place to be or the
Bermagui Beach Hotel. Shoppers will find interesting places
to browse while those looking for a place to eat will not be disappointed when
they sample Bermagui's local seafood. The Bermagui Markets are held on the last
Sunday of each month. Don't miss the
Bermagui Seaside Fair in March and the extremely popular Four Winds
Festival held at Easter (even years). .
Wallaga Lake
Ten kilometers north of Bermagui is
Wallaga Lake, a huge waterway that is the favorite spot for
boating enthusiast and yet another great fishing location in the area. Turn left
at Beauty Point for boat ramp, picnic area and top spot for swimming, sailing,
fishing, prawning and water skiing. Another picnic area and toilets are located
just south of the Wallaga Lake bridge. The National Parks and
forests that surround Bermagui open up another world of
relaxation, bush walking, picnicking or simply an opportunity to soak up the
peaceful atmosphere. Step back in time and experience the culture of the Yuin
people at
Umbarra Cultural Centre.
